Hematological parameters among pregnant women in Derna city, Libya

Background: Pregnancy is a state characterized by many physiological haematological changes which may appear to be pathological in the non- pregnant state. Hematological parameters is considered one of the factors affecting pregnancy and its outcome. Anemia is the most common hematological problem in pregnancy. Aim: To assess hematological profiles of pregnant women in comparison with non pregnant women. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted from June to October 2022 on 52 pregnant and 58 non-pregnant women at Derna general and private hospitals. Data was analyzed using the statistical soft ware SPSS version 26.
Result : The results of this study showed that the mean age of pregnant women was 30 years ± 5.8 SD. In pregnant women highly significance decrease in Hb, Hct and LYM%, compared with non pregnant women (P < 0.05). The prevalence of anaemia among pregnant woman was 88.7% and 11.7% among non-pregnant women. Conclusion : It is essential to monitor and manage these parameters during pregnancy. Further studies should be conducted to indicate the prevalence and causes of anaemia and thrombocytopenia in Libyan pregnant women.
