The study emphasized the necessity of educating Sarir oil field workers about the hazards of petroleum pollutants and their effects on environmental and public health. A descriptive–analytical methodology was employed to collect data from a random sample of workers within the field through questionnaires that were distributed and analyzed accordingly. The results of the study revealed a low level of awareness among workers about the dangers of petroleum pollutants, as well as a lack of compliance with proper methods for disposing of petroleum waste, with a non-compliance rate of 45%. Furthermore, the findings indicated a significant need to develop effective protocols aimed at enhancing workers’ awareness, as only 25% of the participants demonstrated knowledge of waste management policies. In addition, the level of awareness regarding hazardous waste disposal methods did not exceed 10%. The results also showed a negative correlation between the level of awareness and adherence to environmental and safety practices. The study recommends the implementation of workshops and awareness programs for workers in the oil field to educate them about the risks of petroleum pollutants, promote compliance with safety procedures, and protect the environment. It also emphasizes the importance of disseminating preventive measures and guidelines for dealing with oil pollution incidents, as well as establishing effective mechanisms between management and workers to strengthen a culture of awareness and shared responsibility for environmental and public health protection.
