Abstract

This study aims to identify the food gap of the barley crop in Libya by studying some economic indicators of the production of barley crop in Libya and estimating the general trend during the study period (2000-2020). The agricultural production sector is one of the important economic sectors in Libya for its contribution to GDP. Barley production is estimated at 511 thousand tons in 2020. and the value of the food security factor for the barley crop in Libya showed a decline of equal to zero. The results obtained from the dual logarithmic function indicated that the independent variables in the quantity of domestic production and the quantity available for consumption and agricultural domestic product were consistent with the economic logic of the study period. (2000 - 2020), statistically acceptable based on values (t), it is noted that there is a negative relationship between the quantity of production and the size of the gap to the barley crop. The lower the quantity of production, the greater the food gap to the barley crop as well as to the agricultural domestic product. The quantity available for consumption is a positive relationship between it and the size of the barley crop's food gap.
